June 21, 2018 PE and PLS (EN) Board of Registration Meeting

Massachusetts Board of Registration of Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors

 

At the June 21, 2018 Meeting of the Board of Registration of Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors, the board discussed several items of interest to MALSCE members:
  • Continuing Education: The draft proposed regulations on Continuing Professional Competency are still being reviewed within the Division of Professional Licensure, before they receive additional review outside the agency
  • Draft Policy on the Use of the Title Engineer: This is not yet finalized.
  • Draft Policy on the PLS Massachusetts Examination Committee: This is not yet finalized. The Board again reviewed a draft policy guideline that outlines the purpose, procedures, and responsibilities of the Exam Committee.
    • The purpose of the Exam Committee is to ensure that the state-specific portion of the Principles and Practices Land Surveying Examination remains a valid and reliable assessment instrument.
    • The Exam Committee consists of at least two Board (of Registration) members and at least four non-Board members appointed by the Chair of the Board of Registration
  • PLS Examination Report
    • Thirteen candidates took the Principles and Practices of Land Surveying exam this spring. The Massachusetts state-specific portion had a passing grade of 70%.  
    • Of the thirteen candidates who took the exam: 9 were from Massachusetts, 10 were first time test-takers and a total of 6 passed the exam.
  • License Renewals due June 30, 2018: All Professional Engineer and Professional Land Surveyor licenses in Massachusetts expire on June 30, 2018. Registrants should have received notification from the Division of Professional Licensure with instructions for online renewal. For information and to pay your renewal fee online, click here.
  • The next Board of Registration meeting is scheduled for July 19, 2018 at 9 AM. The Board expect two board members from NCEES (National Council of Examiners of Engineers and Surveyors) to attend.
    • Also from NCEES:  The Principles and Practice of Surveying Exam (PS Exam) has new specifications starting in January 2019. The specifications will be posted on the NCEES website on July 2, 2018. We’ll include that information in the next MALSCE News.
