Dear Members of MALSCE,
The fall foliage has peaked across New England and the leaves that impeded our sight lines have fallen. Those same wooded areas are hunting grounds, please be careful. We at MALSCE continue to explore and provide opportunities for continuing education for MALSCE members. We are planning two webinars focused on office and field survey technicians. These will be presented during November and December by A. Richard Vannozzi, MS, PLS, assistant professor, surveying and engineering technology at the University of Maine. MALSCE also intends to host the 16th Annual Legal Perspectives on Land Surveying seminar in January 2025. Look for these programs to be announced in a MALSCE broadcast email.
We sent out third and final MALSCE dues renewal invoices notices. I would like to thank those that have paid their FY25 dues and encourage those who have not renewed their membership, to do so at their earliest convenience. Payment of your dues by Friday, November 29, 2024, ensures you will continue to receive the numerous benefits that MALSCE has to offer through June 30, 2025. If you did not receive an emailed dues invoice, contact Michelle Monette at mmonette@engineers.org and she will send you a copy.
MALSCE Proprietors’ Council Chair Mike Clifford, PLS, from DGT Associates, will host several luncheon meetings. These council meetings feature discussions of business trends impacting land surveying and engineering firms and MALSCE undertakings. Three additional council luncheon meetings have been scheduled for the current fiscal year. The next meeting occurs from 12:30 to 2:30 pm on Thursday, December 12.
We held our annual Fall MALSCE Board of Directors Meeting & Dinner with members of the Central and Eastern Massachusetts Chapters on Thursday, October 17, 2025, at O’Connor’s Restaurant & Bar in Worcester. We welcomed Curtis Johnson, PLS, president, Express Surveying and SurveySearch.net. Curtis provided an informative presentation on his website, SurveySearch.net, a marketing tool for subscribing surveying professionals that allows consumers to find surveyors that have completed jobs in their area.
MALSCE Convention Planning Committee members have met several times to discuss the 2025 MALSCE Convention’s featured sessions and activities. This upcoming in-person event will occur on Friday February 28, and Saturday, March 1, at the Boxboro Regency Hotel & Conference Center. We are returning to the Boxboro Regency to take advantage of its exhibit hall, which will host Friday’s convention exhibition, live exhibitor product/service demonstrations, the 2025 MALSCE Plan & Field Notes Contests, breakfast, and lunch. If there is a cutting-edge product or service that you’d like to be featured during the live demonstrations, send your suggestion to MALSCE Executive Director Rich Keenan at rkeenan@engineers.org.
As MALSCE president, I continue to be honored to serve this association and lead in the mission to promote the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in our field. MALSCE is here to foster the development of the profession, share knowledge, and create resources that benefit us all. Together, we can continue to advance the field of land surveying and provide valuable services to our clients and communities. I hope that you find MALSCE’s professional development program offerings and my monthly MALSCE News President’s Messages helpful in this regard.
Thank you,
Ken Conte, President
