Dear Members of MALSCE,
As the end of the year approaches, like most New Englanders, we prepare for the impending winter conditions and traffic issues due to holiday travelers and snow. MALSCE leadership and the hosting Cape Cod Chapter continue to progress on the final planning of the 2024 Convention on Friday and Saturday, March 1 and 2, 2024, at the Boxboro Regency Hotel & Conference Center. We continue to request and are ready to accept your plan and field notes submissions for the convention’s 2024 Plan and Field Notes Contests. Click here to learn more. As you may recall, we were unable to hold the contests last year due to a lack of entries. This past month, I attended Connecticut and Rhode Island’s annual conventions and was impressed by the number and quality of their entries. Need I say more! We need entries.
We continue to provide continuing education opportunities. This past month, we held the second NSPS Certified Floodplain Surveyor (CFS) Training and Certification Program. Participants are awaiting the test results. We have started planning for the 15th Annual Legal Perspectives on Land Surveying seminar in January. We continue to focus on providing educational opportunities for the “young” survey technicians in the profession. We are hopeful that we can team with the educators from the University of Maine to provide a webinar in the future. Additionally, during this season of giving, I would like to remind everyone that we need donations for the MALSCE Education Trust, which seeks to enhance the profession of land surveying and civil engineering by awarding scholarships and grants to students and educators. Our Public Awareness Committee Chair David Prince has been active with the committee’s outreach to local high schools and vocational schools. If you have a local school that you would like to have us visit, please reach out to us. Additionally, committee members are planning to exhibit at an annual convention of the Massachusetts High School Guidance Counselors. We are seeking copyright-free photographs for a pop-up banner to be displayed at these and other MALSCE events. Please send your photographs to us at malsce@engineers.org.
We sent out third MALSCE dues renewal invoices notices. Please note that these are due by December 15 and to contact Michelle Monette at mmonette@engineers.org, if you need a copy of your invoice. I’d like to thank those that have paid their FY24 dues and encourage those who have not renewed their membership, to do so at their earliest convenience.
As MALSCE president, I continue to be honored to serve this association and lead in the mission to promote the highest standards of professionalism and excellence in our field. MALSCE is here to foster the development of the profession, share knowledge, and create resources that benefit us all. Together, we can continue to advance the field of land surveying and provide valuable services to our clients and communities. I hope that you find MALSCE’s professional development program offerings and my monthly MALSCE News President’s Messages helpful in this regard.
Thank you,
Ken Conte, President
