2022 Plan Contest Rules and Entries

Entries are divided into five categories:

ALTA/NSPS Land Title Survey, Cadastral, Data Accumulation/Existing Conditions Plan, Engineering Site Plan, and Land Court.

Judging:
Plans will be judged on compliance with the effective 250CMR, Section 6, based on plan date. The plan will also be judged on the following:

• Overall readability, appearance, neatness, balance, and consistency.
• Completeness (dimensions, labels, references, monuments, etc.)
• Qualifying notes or statements (clearly and understandably stated).
• Well defined and descriptive title block.

Rules:

• Plans must be one sheet. (No multiple sheets or sets).
• Must be a plan of land in Massachusetts, dated between March 2021 and February 2022.
• Entries can be PDF or TIFF copies of the drawings.
• One plan, per drafter, per category. Firms can enter plans in the same category by different drafters.
• Color submittal is allowed for non-registry plans.
• All entries will become the property of MALSCE.

2022 Field Notes Contest Rules and Entries

Entries are divided into three categories:

Cadastral and Land Court, Construction Layout, and Data Accumulation/Existing Conditions Plan/ALTA Plans.

Judging:

Field notes will be judged on their adherence to 250CMR, Section 6. The field notes will also be judged on the following:

• Overall readability, appearance, neatness, and consistency.
• Completeness (dimensions, labels, references, monuments, etc.).
• Proper title, headings, and notations.

Rules:

• Field notes can be up to four pages in length.
• Must be field notes for land in Massachusetts, dated between March 2021 and February 2022.
• Entries can be PDF or TIFF copies of the notes.
• One set of field notes, per field chief, per category. Firms can enter plans in the same category by different field chiefs.
• Color submittal and blackout of confidential information allowed.
• All entries will become the property of MALSCE.

Awards
All plans and field notes will be displayed on the MALSCE website during the convention. Finalists in each category will be selected by a panel of land surveying judges and convention participants will vote to determine the winning plan and field notes in each category as well as the Plan and Field Notes of the Year. Award winners will be announced during the Convention Reception & Benefit Auction on Friday, March 18, 2022.
