What is OPUS Projects?
OPUS Projects is a web-based GPS processing and network adjustment package with access to simple visualization, management, and processing tools for multiple marks and multiple occupations. OPUS Projects is a natural extension of OPUS that allows engineers, surveyors, and other users to position campaign-style GPS observations (geodetic networks) with greater accuracy by combining them through multi-baseline processing and least-squares adjustments.  Some of its advantages include:  
  • Data uploading and harvesting through OPUS
  • Web-based data storage and access
  • Processing and network adjustment using the NGS PAGES software suite.
  • Data and solution visualization aids
  • Coordinate results tied to the NSRS or to local constraints
  • Limited support for bluebooking
OPUS Projects is a four step process with an optional fifth step:  
  1. Create the project
  2. Upload data files and mark descriptions
  3. Process sessions
  4. Adjust the network
  5. Publish to the NGS Integrated Database or IDB (Note that this step requires using the NGS Adjust program and following the remainder of the normal bluebooking process
What will you learn at OPUS Projects Manager Training?
By attending this workshop, you should have enough information to successfully use OPUS Projects for your own geodetic network projects.  The training is two days and you must attend both days to become a project manager for OPUS Projects.  Once the training is completed, you'll be given an opportunity to register your email address thereby authorizing you to create and process your own OPUS Projects.
Although not required, familiarity with typical GNSS surveying practices and NGS' OPUS is helpful.   Also helpful is the ability to access your email during training because OPUS Projects uses email as one means to communicate with you.

Daniel J. Martin
Vermont Geodetic Advisor, NOAA/NOS/National Geodetic Survey
Dan Martin works for the National Geodetic Survey and is the Geodetic Advisor to the State of Vermont.  He worked for the Route Survey and Geodetic Survey sections of the Vermont Agency of Transportation from 1988 through 2003, and held the position of Geodetic Program Supervisor for the Agency from 1999 through 2003.  In 2003 Dan began his career with the National Geodetic Survey.  As the State Geodetic Advisor, he instructs local surveyors and state and municipal agencies on how to use and preserve the National Spatial Reference System, and provides liaison between the National Geodetic Survey and the State of Vermont. Dan is a Past President of the American Association for Geodetic Surveying (AAGS), and is a Fellow Member of the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping and recently served as the ACSM Congress Chair.  He is also a member of the Vermont Society of Land Surveyors, and a new member of New Hampshire Land Surveyors Association.

Information/Registration: Registration fees are $270/person for MALSCE members and $385 for non-members. Registration fee includes breakfast, two snack breaks, lunch and all seminar handouts. This seminar is limited to 20 attendees so register early! Registrations are process on a first-come, first-served basis. Seminar attendees must bring their own laptop computer. Cancellations/Refunds: A 50% refund will be given for cancellationsmade by October 2, 2014. No refunds will be given after this date. No-shows will be billed.

Continuing Education: This seminar is worth 13 professional development hours (subject to state-specific exclusions; seek clarification from appropriate state authorities). All seminar participants will receive a certificate documenting attendance at the end of the seminar.
