President's Message

Paul Foley, PLS, COO, Feldman Land Surveyors

2017-2019 MALSCE President

As we enter an active fall season the volunteers at MALSCE have been busy!

The MALSCE 3D Standards Committee held its second meeting in September. It was another productive discussion, with a standards framework taking shape. We are looking forward to hearing more detailed updates later this year. The committee is chaired by Stephen Wilkes (Feldman) with Dan MacIsaac, PLS (Massport), Bob Staples, PLS (DGT), David Prince, PLS (WSP), Andy Street, PE (Civil View) and Ted Covill, CP (WSP) as advising members. We sincerely appreciate the dedication and time spent by the Committee to help improve and secure our place in industry.

I am pleased to report that Tim Agurkis, PLS and Damien Raffle, PLS from Feldman Land Surveyors proctored an NSPS Certified Survey Technician exam on Saturday October 7th at Feldman’s headquarters. 15 field and office staff sat for the four-hour test. Certification as a survey technician is officially recognized by NSPS. Not only does it provide individuals with a sense of achievement and an opportunity to grow professionally, it also provides employers with a tool to evaluate staff abilities and potential. If interested in learning more about the CST program or to sit for an upcoming test, please contact Tim Agurkis at TAgurkis@feldmansurveyors.com.

Thank you to the Berkshire Chapter President Brian Koczela and all of our chapter leaders from the Berkshire and Connecticut Valley Chapters for hosting me at their joint September meeting in Williamsburg, MA. We had a thoughtful and engaging discussion on how our executive and chapter leadership can work more closely. We discussed the importance of continuing education, and not only maintaining our role in society, but growing it to include emerging technologies.

Lastly, congratulations to TECET’s Rich Keenan on becoming MALSCE’s Executive Director! Rich continues to be a crucial component that keeps our association running. The MALSCE Executive Committee voted unanimously in favor to make the long-overdue title change at its August meeting.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me with ideas, questions or concerns regarding our association.

All the best,

Sustaining Members
